Bit of a different take on the write up for this evening, largely due to it being another heavy roleplaying session.
So here’s how the party spent their day in Yocan…
Gunnar’s Day…
Still a little troubled about learning that Fayd’s tribe had been wiped out by Rift Demons he takes his sword to the blacksmith to get it cleaned up and generally given some TLC for it’s sterling service and to purchase a replacement hand axe (his old one was still buried in the face of a Rift Demon under the rubble of the Nearith Outpost…)
During his walk through the town it becomes apparent that the Dog Catchers are still out in force, but Gunnar’s mind is focused on other things and he dismisses their threat for now.
He meets the others and visit’s Amberclad, gifting the odd little chap the strange Nearith robes he’d recovered from one of the graves in the Nearith Outpost and learns that the pyramid shown by his map when he’d placed it on the lecturn in the Outpost was located in the Talos Outpost, which Amberclad believes can be found in the Sea of Chaos to the North.
Another run in with the Dog Catchers led to a meeting with Peggz and Kagey, his erstwhile crewmates once again warned that Captain Silvereye was on the warpath and wanted him dead and the map he carried returned. The two Goblins offered to take the map and in return would tell Silvereye that they’d killed Gunnar in the process, while Gunnar had no intention of handing over his map he was keen to reduce the number of deadly Ogres who wanted him dead so agreed to the goblin’s offer…making plans to find someone who could make him a forgery of the original map – reasoning that without the magical clues he’d discovered a copy was unlikely to give Silvereye any real help in finding the Talos Outpost before he could reach it himself.
Before returning to their new house Gunnar pays a visit to the local church which he, Fayd and a few of the others had helped start building, Gunnar paid 50 gold to the priest to pray to Helm so that she could intercede on Fayd and his tribe’s behalf with their Orcish God and ensure they were welcomed by him in whatever afterlife they might seek. Religion and Gods aren’t a big part of Gunnar’s life but he’d promised to help Fayd and his people and with them all dead this was the only way he could think of to try and honour that debt.
Iivan’s Day…
Having to deal with the smelly surface dwellers was always a long, painful and dull process, but some of them could be useful at least. A new gunsmith had set up shop in Yucan and, still mourning Bessie’s loss, Iivan was keen to replenish his arsenal ahead of the challenges to come. Eventually buying two lovely pistols and a crude, but powerful blunderbuss…along with enough ammunition to down a giant, Iivan once again felt like he was ready to deal with whatever came his way.
Checking in with Silwind of the Obisidian syndicate he learnt that the price on their heads had risen – clearly his shadowy enemies were led by fools though, as Luther’s bounty exceeded his own. Still, a meatshield could always prove useful in a pinch…
As well as the Twighlight Twins (one of whom had bested Fayd in the City of Libraries and were notorious bounty hunters) being seen in town it seemed that the powder rats were still intent of wrestling control of the monoliths away from the Obsidian Order, Silwind briefing him on the current state of the shadow war and what monoliths were still under Obsidian Order control. He also learnt that Big Billy was looking for a rematch with Gunnar, all he needed to do now was find a way to turn this to his advantage somehow – no doubt the dullwitted barbarian would be easy enough to convince if direct action was called for. Particularly as it seemed the temporary alliance between Billy and Starling had soured, and the bitch was no longer under Billy’s protection – perhaps the daydreams about her guns would realise, along with a fat purse full of bounty money.
A visit to Amberclad proved as amusing as ever, it was interesting to learn that “Nick” was also lying about his real name and Greg has had unsavory health practices….
Balasar’s Day…
Starting the day with a trip to the local merchants Balasar browsed many of the magical wares on offer but a lack of funds curtailed his shopping spree and eventually he left empty handed. Visiting Amberclad proved to be a delight as usual, it seemed that Luther and many of his other companions still seemed hung up on Fayd’s unfortunate demise, these warm blooded creatures seemed totally incapable of moving on with their lives, preferring to dwell on things which couldn’t be changed for some strange mammalian reason he couldn’t fathom. It was a miracle they ever managed to get anything done in their short span of years…
Compounding this difficult situation, the weird scholar’s “help” with his quest to free his ancestor had left him more confused than he’d been to start with. A situation that wasn’t helped by another waking dream in which he encountered Nexus and Navarro’s master once again torturing his ancestor somewhere in Drakenberg, a reckoning was coming with those barbarous scum…
Luther’s Day…
Argued with a dwarf about whether or not a tiara was enchanted, and was told off for grave robbing before reluctantly forking over the gold to investigate the headpiece
Got on really well with Amberclad for the first time ever, and revealed that Axeholme was a place of interest his brother may be heading to. Retrieved his mothers book from Father Lucius before grovelling an apology, sharing his concerns about his brother, and promising to do better in the future.
Went to read the book but was whined at by ‘Fayd’ to go out and have some fun, and told off for using disguise self on the journey over Was about to cause a fun little scene at the tavern with a killer performance before being drawn into some weird dreamscape.
Was urged to play by The Gentleman, was then joined by two more people, an undead but also beautiful elf(?), and a huge Goliath who could destroy him very easily if he wanted. They asked to be set free like the gentleman, and promised to bring his mother back and reunite him with her and his brother. He panicked when asked if he had a deal and snapped out of it to a roaring applause in the tavern, and found a coin in his hand with an image of both demons on either side.
Sylas’ Day…
Nick started the day in high spirits (and as “Nick”…), taking his shiny new armour to a local merchant to get identified he could almost taste the envy from Navarro once he was sporting this fine new magical defence. Things went rapidly downhill from there though after meeting Amberclad for the first time and having his real name (Sylas) revealed to the party after Amberclad had somehow stolen his magic ring which let him stay in touch with Father Lucius. The strange man eventually returned the ring but Sylas learned that Yucan was in danger as not one, but several of his companions had been in some kind of communication with their enemies and had…told…them…where…they…were.
With friends like these….
Still, he was loyal to Father Lucius and used the ring to warn him of the potential threat to Yucan so they might prepare their defences in time, though what they could do to fend off a dragon was yet to be seen.
Gregg’s Day…
Gregg had a bit of a rough day all told, after paying a ludicrous amount of gold with Nick to have some of their loot identified the store owner threw doubt on his closest companion’s background after stating that the strange accent Nick had was not that of the region he claimed to hail from. Before being able to follow up on this with Nick he was dragged to meet Amberclad in Hammerbeard’s keep he learned little of value other than he was surrounded by some very strange companions and Navarro and Amberclad had some kind of semi romantic connection. This much was tolerable, what was less gratifying was Amberclad’s ominous assertion that the Blight was deep inside him and he was running out of time to find a cure…
