The group gathered around the monolith. Everyone seems to be a bit on the edge about something. The idea of letting our guard down, even the slightest, is inconceivable. The knowledge of the stakes makes the burden hundreds of times heavier, and there is no turning back from this.
Promise
“Ironic,” thought Fayd, “this is what we get all the time! Only promises… Somehow we’re keep getting the short end of the straw. What is the worth of an empty promise? We put ourselves out there to face deadly foes and what I get in exchange is a promise. We’ll send someone to check if everyone from your pack is dead. Here is a bunch of gold that might help you forget!. What a load of bollocks…”
While Balasar and Iivan are working together on the monolith, Gunnar approaches Fayd.
“You’re gonna get a lough out of this. You remember those goblin cunts? Well they are a gang now! Call themselves the Dog Catchers. There is now a bunch of goblins running around with an ear cut off searching for you.”
“You can’t make that shit up,” chuckled Faye, “I guess that’s my fault for not finishing what I started.” The monolith lights up. “That’s our cue, halfies. Let’s go.”
Through the dark mist of the transportation device, Fayd sees a towering Thiefling with a blue skin just standing there watching him. As he approaches the figure it points at the half-orc and with an arrogant smirk on his face says “I’m coming for you”. Fayd’s skin crawls…
“Did anyone else see that? There’s someone else after us!”
“Did it say it was after you or us?” Luther joked. “What difference does that make? We’re together in this…”
“He’s probably sleepwalking again. Ignore the dog,” said Iivan dismissively
A robed man approached the group. He was in charge of setting things up for the party’s journey to the Labyrinth. It would only take an hour or so, so the group could gather at the tavern to stay warm and grab a drink.
Mead for everyone apart from Fayd and Luther. Fayd still feeling a bit shaken by the Thiefling. Luther on the other hand was feeling a bit chatty and struck up a conversation with the tavern keeper. Something about genders and the half-orc only deciphered that the Tavern keeper said he “looks like a woman, all skinny like that”. Pissed off he went outside to wait for his companions.
Gunnar and Iivan got to meet two adventurers that father Lucius sent to assist us on finding the orb. They seemed to know each other beforehand. Twi half-elves, a paladin and a warlock. Strange pairing one could argue
“Oh great, two more bloody elves…” muttered Gunnar.
Yohorn introduced himself as a long time protégé of father Lucius and a paladin of the order. Hamlet came from a distant land had been adventuring with the paladin for a while now and was looking to make a name for himself on the continent. He seemed to know his way around invocations, judging by the tome he carries. Could prove himself to be a valuable ally.
Ready to depart, the group gathered outside where the sleds were ready to take them to the entrance of the location Amberclad marked for them. Fayd was carving dicks and foul messages at the exterior of the tavern and before leaving decided to just piss at the door. As he was doing that he realized the owner was actually a creep and seemed to be really enjoying. As the sleds disappeared in the distance, the tavern keeper could still be seen at the window looking at Fayd with thirsty eyes.
The carts were led by 6 brothers. All looking extremely similar and called Steve apart from one, Kevin. He didn’t like anything about this. He hated absolutely anyone. Gunnar managed to win his respect by catering to his bitterness and saying “You’re better them all of them. You must be the leader.” Worked like a charm.
Arriving at the Labyrinth the group did what they do best. Split up. Luther panicked and started strolling down the path to the right while Ilvan noticed some big marks of the icy walls to the left. Fayd hurried behind Luther fearing he would put himself in danger again just like the last 100 times he did that. Yohorn and Hamlet decided to each help a group and went their separate ways for now with the paladin following the bard too but keeping and eye on the back line. He tried to move silently but the echoes of Fayd and Luther arguing and his chain mail meant it would be a waste of time, so he tried to pick up the pace even though he was struggling a little with the slippery floor.
Iivan followed the marks on the wall until he found a trail of fresh blood. Signalling Gunnar with his hands they moved NOT silently through the corridors with Hamlet right behind looking very confused with all the hand signalling. The half-or was so noisy moving around that Hamlet was asking himself what’s even then point of communicating through hand gestures.
Luther turned a corner and just 30ft from him he saw for the first time in his life not one but two massive owlbears. Seeing the look on his friend’s face, Fayd jumped into action. A loud howl can be heard through the tunnels as the tattoo on his arm starts to spread…
The trail of blood led the trio down the icy corridors to a corner. As they try to check what awaits for them, it seems like it was already alerted by all the noise. A hulking hill giant sprints towards them trampling anything on it’s path. She hits Gunnar with enough blunt force to knock anyone out. But Gunnar is not just anyone, he’s Gunnar Orcsson and he’s got the bestest sword ever!
The paladin had never seen this form of lycanthropy before and is both surprised and worried. The wolf charges past the Luther with impressive speed and ferociously start’s to claw the owlbear if front of him. His attacks lacerates the monstrosity thick skin. Desperate it grabs Fayd and shoves him so that it’s partner can feast. They furiously attack the barbarian. Luther hurriedly try to draw his crossbow to help his friend but panic makes him miss the owlbear and hit Fayd instead. – Oh shit! Sorry! – said Luther as he muttered a healing word. Yohorn is running as fast as he can but he was far behind. When he turns around the corner he sees the werewolf almost ripping one of the owlbears in half.
Iivan draws his pistol but with his feet unsteady misses his shot. Hamlet turns the corner and shoots a blast of eldritch force only realize that he was trying to hit the giant’s reflection on the wall. Gunnar feels the call from his sword. He draws it and without flourish slashes the giant with a mighty swing before disappearing before his companion’s eyes. Panicking, the rogue and warlock make their way down the long corridor towards the entrance.
On the other side of the maze, Luther is shredding his lute. His tune mocks the owlbear and inspires Fayd to hit him with hungry ferocity. Yohorn comes sliding through the icy floor and slashes with his glaive only to lose balance and not hit the creature. He curses under his breath and questions the usefulness of Luther. The creature tries desperately to claw and bite Fayd but the wolf is just too fast for it. As it misses it gets slashed to the brink of its life. The paladin sees his opportunity and with a mighty swing of his glaive he smites down the beast with vengeful force. The owlbear falls limp to the ground.
In one moment Gunnar was just there in front of the giant. The other he was standing a few meters behind it. The creature turns to him and swing for another lethal hit. The half orc takes it and responds with a mighty yell “IIVAN COME BACK HERE!” . A pulse of magic goes through his body and as swings one more time his skin turns blue. Confused, the giant yells and raises her had to swing one final time at gunnar before a loud bang echoes through the labyrinth and it’s chest’s explode covering the now blue half orc in guts and blood.
Hamlet sees the orc and cleans it up with a snap of his fingers but he stays blue. Gunnar shrugs it off since he’s just embracing the chaos that is using this sword. They walk back towards the corridor where the rest of the group went and meet up. Fayd after feasting on some owlbear meat comes back to his senses only to find Luther having a panic attack. Yohorn is not happy about it starts to voice his strong opinions about Luther. The half orc tells him that Luther is his friend and that he’ll take care of him before grabbing him to carry him.
They meet up and decide to follow Iivan that is scouting ahead. Fayd manages to calm Luther down and the bard tells them that he can feel the presence of the Riftdemons again.
As the party walk behind Iivan, some kind of trap is activated that the walls squish almost everyone. Desperate the group starts to pick up the pace and chase Iivan to an open area with a figure laying down on the corner. As the group move a bit in the room the figure starts moving and a Minotaur and a Knight stand up and get ready for attacking.
